BetKing
It's one of Nigeria's biggest online bookmakers. And BetKing is also licensed. This means it's legal in Nigeria at least. Can't say much about other African countries. It's a grey area. Possibly the only other competitors it has are Bet9ja, 1XBet and Nairabet. But, your search for a perfect bookie shouldn't apply the breaks on these limited number of sites. There's plenty of good offshore sportsbooks that one can explore, and they definitely are much better when it comes to paying out large wins quickly, without causing much trouble.
I could sing praises for BetKing, much like many other casino review sites. But, wouldn't, because I need to be honest about what I've read about them, so far.
It does seem that there are plenty of bettors that aren't happy with the way this company handles its bonuses, which can be up to 100% of a bettor's first deposit. It's pretty much imposed on new accounts. And the terms and conditions aren't very clear.
Nairaland, the largest online forum in Nigeria has plenty of threads on this brand. Most users on there, call their bonus a complete scam.
I wouldn't go that far. It's just that they don't seem very upfront on what they mean and expect from their players, who take on the free money.
For example, I've read that the bonus money is meshed with the main deposit, and then any losses gathered during the course of the bets is first deducted from the *main balance.* This act doesn't make it free money, as it's advertised.
I mean, I would also feel angry and double-crossed, if it were to happen to me.
BetKing, please do not use word "bonus" to denote "loaned betting money", if you are going to deduct losses from the original deposits. Stop calling it a bonus, as it confuses new bettors.
Right, having vented all that out, technically, I don't think BetKing is a bad bookmaker. They just need to display a more competent behavior.
Let's move on to a scenario, where you would want to open a new account there. What would be in store, you might wonder.
I'll just brief it all out, so that minimum time is wasted jibjabbing.
It's primarily a sportsbook, focusing on football, that Nigerians are crazy for. But, you'll get more-than-decent odds for sports like Basketball and Dambe too, of course among many others.
Their ensemble includes an online casino as well, with fairly popular slots. You can play blackjack, roulette and other games.
Being legal in Nigeria, one can even find local BK agents, that can open new accounts and offer customer support, without having to visit their site. Use of coupon codes for deposits is common.
Deposits include local bank, credit and debit cards, e-wallets like Opay, Verve etc., are available. Minimum deposit is usually ₦100, but their promotions usually end up giving you a free coupon that one can use to test out their platform.
Minimum withdrawal amount is ₦5,000 and maximum withdrawal amount is ₦40 Million. Bigger withdrawal is available, if you're a VIP bettor. The worst part of the withdrawals is that you need to actually bet 60% of your deposit. They say it's to prevent accounts from being used to launder money. I call BS on this, to be honest. I think it's just a way for them to grab the maximum cash out of their customers.
There isn't a mobile app available, but they still have a dedicated link for it in the menu section on their main website. I mean what's with that. It makes them look more stupid than simply unprofessional. Their site loads fine on smartphones, so why be fake?
Customer support is provided through email and phone (lines are busy most of the time). Personally, I would seek support from a local agent shop, provided they can provide the correct guidance.
The redeeming part of BetKing is probably their ability to provide odds for a very large number of sporting events, particularly all the possible known leagues and games related to Football.
I personally don't think they want to act fishy towards their bettors, but their weasily attempts at outsmarting their clients, gives them a pickpocket vibe. The ironic part is that, they don't need to do these things. It's totally avoidable.
I would say go ahead and open an account there, but be slow and steady with deposits.

A word from the author:
To make this review fair, transparent and to remove any sponsorship bias, I allocated anywhere between $500 (for casual betting) to $25,000 (for evaluating the quality of the high-roller gambling services) out of my own pocket for testing the browser-based platform and the app (where available) of this betting site.
- This money was spent on online casino games and sports betting, depending on what the place is primarily known for. For example, certain brands only cater to slots, while others are predominantly sportsbooks.
- My tests involved all the processes, such as initial deposit and accepting welcome bonuses, KYC, an actual experience of playing the games, and finally withdrawing my winnings, if any.
